What you experience and accomplish during high school is more important than where you go to high school. This is central to every conversation Dunbar has with a family of a middle school student. Dunbar is all about finding the “fit” for each student.
Boarding School-Bound Students
Today’s boarding school community is much different from that of 20-30 years ago. Student bodies have become more diversified with a wider mix of socio-economic groups and more international students. Faculty are trained to teach to multiple intelligences and many schools have trained learning specialists on staff to work with those students who need to learn alternative skills. Some schools specialize in certain sports, arts and/or extracurricular activities. Dunbar visits schools on a regular basis to better understand their individual communities and cultures so that we can make as good a fit as possible for your child.
The process of applying to boarding school can begin as early as the spring of the student’s 7th grade year. In the case of Junior Boarding schools, this can begin as early as the 5th grade. Some families, however, choose to wait for the 10th, 11th or post-graduate year.
